  7. 1I watched Paul Merton's London Paladium story on TV. It was okay, but the
  8. 1best bit was when he finished off his series, by doing his own stage act at
  9. 1the London Paladium. In a particular sketch he played a policeman
  10. 1investigating a murder. Near the end of the act the lights went out and Paul
  11. 1Merton said that when the lights go back on, the only person on the stage
  12. 1must be the murder. When the lights did go on Paul was the only person on
  13. 1stage, so he concluded he must have been the murderer. He said
  14. 1"Oh it must have been me, the policeman. Well the same thing happens in `The
  15. 1Mousetrap' anyway, so I just saved you 15 quid." The audience groaned and I
  16. 1nearly killed my self laughing (what a sense of humour I must have !).

  18. 1Anyway, by chance about a week later I saw Biteback (I think). Some old man
  19. 1had written in saying it was a disgrace that Paul Merton had revealed the
  20. 1ending to The Mousetrap. As he was just about to take his wife to see The
  21. 1Mousetrap and had kept the solution secret from her for 20 years, he was mosr
  22. 1upset. I killed myself laughing even more, especialy when Paul Merton said
  23. 1that the man was a cheapskate and should have taken his wife sooner, after
  24. 1all it's been running 40+ years.

  26. 1Paul Merton has inspired me to do the same and reveal to you the murders in 5
  27. 1Agatha Christie books. I think it's fair to say they are long overdue.

  29. 1If you see your Gran, or someone reading them say something like:
  30. 1"Good book that, Gran. Who would have thought the shopkeeper murdered his own
  31. 1daughter."
  32. 1Funny, and even more so if they are near the end of the book anyway.
